Saturday, February 26, 2005 - Slick Willy

This was the hash where Just Pete became Slick Willy.  After attending only two previous hashes, Just Pete took the giant step to manhood and hared his own hash.  With the help of some bad-ass satellites, our technologically-advanced hare created a true trail map using the GIS mapmaker found on the Chattanooga webpage.  Talk about planning!  Here's a smaller version of the map.

The hashers met at the Miller Plaza park to enjoy some pre-run refreshments.  While relaxing, new business cards were displayed and passed put, to be distributed randomly whenever and wherever hashers feel, but most importantly to anyone who says "Hey - what are you guys doing?" when we're hashing around.  It's a great way to explain what we're doing, get them directed to the website and clue them in to a hobby that's fun for the whole family.

Just Pete left promptly at 2:30 by heading out from Miller Plaza towards - well, you have the true trail map above, so we don't need to tell you.  On the way the hashers realized Just Pete hadn't been explained the "don't break from running in a straight line without a sign" rule (you know, like a whichy-way or intersection) but actually, it made it pretty fun - Just Pete stepped up the whole frantic-looking-for-shiggy thing a notch.

Very quickly JP started us on a good trail involving stairs, parking garages and doubling back through areas you could have sworn you already ran through.  As we often do, the hashers received assistance from normal citizens who were out for walks, hanging around outside looking stoned and just otherwise regular individuals dying to be helpful.  Our favorite was Red Sweatshirt Guy - after being told by one hasher what was going on, seven seconds later he had to ask the next hasher running by what was going on (who said drugs are bad for you?).

Two prizes were hidden on this run - the first was at the top of the parking garage next to the jail, and the second was on a parking meter just up the hill from Chad's Records.  The jail one was placed during the first half of the run, but no one saw it, Just Pete explained as we relaxed at the middle spot.  The middle spot was very swanky for the hashers, on the 16th floor of a certain skyscraper downtown.  We had to sign in and receive a body cavity search from the watchman before our ride in the worlds smallest and fastest elevator.  While gazing out at Chattanooga JP was able to point out where the first prize was, which was totally missed by everyone during the run.

When the beverages were finished and the hash resumed, ReRun broke off, grabbed the prize and met up with the rest of the hashers a block over.   While heading towards UTC at one part of the run, ReRun found the second prize, as well, and giggled like a schoolgirl the whole rest of the run.  UTC turned into MLK, which turned into the vast and confusing unemployment building parking lot that eventually wound everyone to Parkway Billiards for circle.  The prizes were delivered, which were two very nice bottles of sake, which everyone tried with their own glass full of ice.   The hare was sent away as Just Pete and returned as Slick Willy, being so named after a unanimous vote.  Just Lindy and Just Parker, Hall Pass' better halves, arrived and partook in the circle festivities, adding more people and more fun to the run's end.

Sadly, eventually the pitchers and the sake bottles ran dry, so the hash was adjourned with everyone stating Slick Willy hared a fun run.  Congrats, SW - you keep the goodness up and we'll let you hare any ol' time you want.
